Abstract
Introduction: The present study investigates biological, cognitive, mental and social characteristics of parents with more than one exceptional child in Qom city. Objectives: the investigation of comprehensive characteristics of parents with more than one exceptional child and designing a plan for prevention of disabilities. Method and Materials: The study was implemented preparing complete list of parents by exceptional educational organization and welfare organization, the authentic instrumentations that is a checklist designed by Afrooz.et al (1383). Various variables related to the present study were examined including: the birth place of parents, parents’ age of marriage, pre-marriage counseling, parents’ occupation, the educational background of parents and other variables which have been investigated in the current study. Results: The inferential analysis of the data with Q test revealed that there is a correlation between the biological variables of pre-marriage counseling and disability among relatives, the cognitive variables of the educational background of parents and knowledge about the causes of disability, and mental variable of parents’ way of marriage and the kind of marriage(relative or non-relative) in less than p-value of.05 (p<.05).Moreover there was not any correlation between none of the social variables such as parents’ occupation and parents’ style of marriage. Moreover, it revealed that the number of relative marriages among parents with more than one exceptional child is twice as much as parents of normal children and there is a significant relationship in this regard.
